A family of 10 boys , who finally welcomed a little sister this year. After becoming the first Mum in Britain to give birth to a sᴛᴀɢɢᴇʀɪɴɢ 10 boys in a row, Alexis Brett thought that nothing could surprise her any more. But it turns out that life had other plans in mind for the 39-year old Mum as she welcomed her 11th child into the world, finally ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ʜᴇʀ ʜᴏᴛ sᴛʀᴇᴀᴋ by giving birth to a beautiful baby girl.
The mom sᴜsᴘᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ she was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with her 11th child last Christmas Eve and a home ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ ᴛᴇsᴛ confirmed it. At first, she assumed that she would have another son, but she and her husband David chose to get a ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ sᴄᴀɴ, just to check. Brett had her first son when she was 22, and over the last 15 years, nine more sons have followed. So, imagine her surprise when she told that this time she would have to start buying onesies in pink. She said :” We’re over ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴏᴏɴ. I’d been expecting to hear we were having another boy. But when I found out it was a girl, my face was a picture. I was sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ, but delighted. Now she’s here with us, it’s a fantastic feeling.” And although she’s only a few weeks old, baby Cameron is already having a ʀᴇᴍᴀʀᴋᴀʙʟᴇ ᴇFFᴇᴄᴛ on her ten brothers, whose ages range from two to 17. They’ve generally been much better behaved around her, trying to keep quiet in case they wake her up. They also want to help with holding and feeding her, it’s been great.
Alexis explains that although Cameron was an ᴜɴᴇxᴘᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ, she’s overjoyed at finally getting to bring a girl into the Brett household and feels that their family is now complete. She named her girl Cameron, after the actress Cameron Diaz. Her birth marks a 16-year age ᴅɪFFᴇʀᴇɴᴄᴇ between her and her oldest brother, 17-year-old Campbell. Not to mention her other brothers, Harrison, 16, Corey, 14, Lachlan, 11, Brodie, 9, Brahn, 8, Hunter, 6, Mack, 5, Blake, 3, and Rothagaidh, 2. Alexis laughs said :” We’re definitely stopping now. There’ll be no more. I said that last time, but this time I absolutely mean it. I love my family as it is now. I’m an only child myself and I’d never planned to have a large family, but now that I do, I love it. I always joked I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with a girl anyway but that’s all changed now, of course, and I have to admit that we’re having a lot of fun buying pink things for the first time . Of course, we do get ᴄᴏᴍᴍᴇɴᴛs about the ɴᴜᴍʙᴇʀ of children we have. But it doesn’t bother me what people think. We’re well used to it. Some people think we must be on benefits, but we’re not. David has a good job which means we don’t even ǫᴜᴀʟɪFʏ Fᴏʀ Fᴜʟʟ ᴄʜɪʟᴅ ʙᴇɴᴇFɪᴛs .”
She added :” It’s not easy with so many boys running around, but I like everything neat and tidy. I can’t stand ᴍᴇss. Cameron’s crib currently sits next to a wall of ‘It’s a girl!’ cards and has a floral blanket draped over it. Her presence seems like a novelty to the boys who keep poking their heads in to gawk at the new arrival. David and I sometimes look at each other to say, ‘What have we done?’ But when the boys come out with something funny and make us laugh, it makes it all worthwhile.”
