A 70-year-old Woman Gave Birth To Twins, One of The Oldest To Give Birth
In general, women get pregnant at the age of 25-35, but this couple is different.
This woman named Omkari Singh became pregnant at the age of 70.
Omkari Singh and her husband, Charan Singh Panwar already had two daughters and five grandchildren, but they always wanted a son to take care of the couple. Boys are highly valued in India, especially in rural areas. And at the age of 70, that dream came true!
The elderly Indian couple were nearly destitute after mortgaging their land, selling their buffalo and taking out a loan for fertility treatment worth £4,400.
And, after controversially undergoing IVF treatment, the couple’s wish was granted, when twins, a boy and a girl, were born via Caesarean section.
Panwar had a difficult pregnancy. Singh said that he never thought his wife would make it through the pregnancy and that the in vitro treatment was very painful. But she survived.
The twins were born at 34 weeks through an emergency Caesarean section at a hospital in the nearby town of Muzaffarnagar.
The twins – each weighing two pounds, nine ounces – are healthy and expected to survive.
The Panwars, who live in a small community in Uttar Pradesh, Northern India, were thrilled to finally see and hold their two babies.
Recuperating on a rusty steel bed in her daughter’s mud brick house, Omkari said: “The eight months of pregnancy were hectic and very painful. But I had given birth before, so I knew what to expect. “Sometimes, you have to face the pain if you want something good. All I care about is that my children are healthy. “My daughter had a little brother, my husband and I had an heir – that’s what we wanted.”
Charam Singh said: “I am very happy” . “At last we have a son and heir,” he said. “We prayed to God, went to saints and visited religious places to pray for an heir.
