The Day God Brought an Empty Suitcase

A man opened his eyes in the afterlife to find God walking toward him, carrying an old suitcase.

“It’s time to go,” God said gently.

The man panicked. “So soon? But I still had so many plans!”

“I am sorry,” God replied, “but your time on Earth has ended.”

Curious, the man eyed the luggage. “What’s inside the suitcase?”

“Everything that belongs to you,” God answered.

“My things? My house, my clothes, my savings?” the man asked hopefully.

God smiled kindly. “No. Those belonged to the world; you were simply their temporary caretaker.”

“My memories then?”

“No, they belong to the moments in which they were created.”

“My talents? My family and friends?”

“They were never your possessions,” God explained softly. “Your talents were gifts for a season, and your loved ones were companions on your journey.”

“What about my body?”

“Borrowed dust. It returns to the earth.”

With trembling hands, the man took the suitcase and opened it. It was completely empty.

Tears filled his eyes. “So… I never truly owned anything?”

God placed a hand on his shoulder. “You owned every moment you were given. The sunrises you watched, the laughter you shared, the kindness you showed, and the love you gave. Life was never something you could keep—it was something you were meant to live.”

The Lesson: > We leave behind our houses, careers, and wealth for others to claim. What truly remains is the love we gave and the lives we touched.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Call your loved ones, forgive quickly, laugh louder, and be present. Nothing we own lasts forever, but a life well-lived leaves a story that never ends.
