During the winter months, we often enjoy seasonal fruits, including citrus fruits like oranges, which are also available in other seasons.
These fruits are associated with the colder months due to their importance on our immune system , as, due to frost and low temperatures , many of us tend to get sick.
Orange peels: here’s how to use them with vinegar
To prevent such occurrences and bolster our immune system, it is frequently recommended to enhance our diet with vitamin C, which is abundantly found in oranges.
Therefore, many of us tend to eat them as they are or make a nice juice from them which gives a boost of energy and tends to partially alleviate all our ailments and give us some benefit.
Although everyone removes the peel, it should never be thrown away, as it could be useful for something that is indispensable in our homes and that not everyone knows about.
Furthermore, during the Christmas season, similar to mandarin peels, orange peels can be utilized for decorating our tree or crafting engaging holiday decorations.
But what we are going to talk about now is a totally new use of these peels and which only some housewives know about as another particular ingredient is added to these wastes.
The natural solution
Referring to vinegar, specifically, one can take a jar, break orange peels, and pour a sufficient amount of vinegar into it to ensure complete coverage of the peels in the liquid.
After adding the vinegar, securely seal the jar and let it sit for approximately 15 days. This allows the orange peels to macerate, releasing citrus compounds and extracting essential oils.
After the allotted time has elapsed, strain the solution to remove the orange peel pieces. Transfer the liquid into a spray bottle and apply it on surfaces with tough stains or dirt.
We will see that, thanks to the action of the vinegar and the properties of the orange, many of these surfaces, including steel, will be completely clean and a very fragrant odor will be released into the air.
This is because, with maceration , the peels released all the essential oils which acted with the vinegar and formed a natural detergent which has degreasing and disinfectant properties.
This method can be used not only with oranges, but with all other types of citrus fruits, as they have similar characteristics and therefore lemons or mandarins are also recommended.
Obviously, this depends on our taste but from now on, since the season allows it, when we eat an orange, we can opt to experiment with this solution which will almost certainly surprise us.
In this way, we will not only have a natural detergent that is beneficial for our surfaces but we will also have saved some money in our wallet by avoiding purchasing commercial products for cleaning the house.
