New Adventure For Britain’s Only Identical Quadruplets
Julie and her husband Joseph, 38, despite odds of 64million for a successful quadruplet.
The couple created a sensation when quadruplets Ellie, Georgina, Jessica and Holly Carles were born on 23 March 2006. The sisters are only the 27th set of identical quadruplets conceived in the world.
The girls all came from one embryo that split into four, meaning they shared the same placenta, known as the same egg.
Because of this, Holly and Jessica received less nutrition in the womb than Georgina and Ellie, meaning they had lower birth weights when they were all born prematurely by caesarean section.
At the time, the doctors suggested that one or two of them should be eliminated to give the remaining babies a better chance of survival, but Julie finally decided to keep them all alive.
The birth of these four babies made them the only pair of ‘identical quadruplets’ in Britain.
However, they soon caught up, and it is now impossible to tell them apart – especially as their mother revealed they like to dress the same.
Last September, they turned heads with their identical masses of curly hair as they started school near their home in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.
However, Mrs Carles said: “They have their own distinct personalities, so as people get to know them they start to tell them apart.”
Mr Carles, a landscape products manager, said he was ‘immensely proud’ of his girls.
They shared everything from their birthdays to their first day at school. Now, Britain’s only identical quadruplets are setting off on a new adventure together – as models in their own right.
Ellie, Georgie, Holly and Jessica Carles have been recruited by Sainsbury’s to show off their school uniform range in a series of adverts.
John Carolan, head of Sainsbury’s Childrenswear said, “We are delighted to have Ellie, Georgie, Holly and Jessica on board, our truly unique uniform testers, and look forward to four sets of views in the coming months.”
