A huge bear saw him and licked his lips.
“Well, look what we have here,” the bear thought. “A quick snack.” The rabbit was terrified, but then noticed some animal tracks nearby.
Thinking fast, he shouted: “That was the third bear I’ve scared away today! I wonder if a fourth one will show up.”
The bear stopped in his tracks. “Third bear?” he thought. “This little guy must be tougher than he looks.”
The bear quietly retreated.
A squirrel watching from a tree had seen the whole thing.
“If I tell the bear the truth, maybe he’ll reward me,” the squirrel thought.
So he ran after the bear and explained that the rabbit was bluffing.
The angry bear growled, “Jump on my back. Let’s go teach that rabbit a lesson.”
As they headed back, the rabbit spotted them from afar.
Without missing a beat, he yelled: “Where has that squirrel been? I asked him an hour ago to bring me another bear, and he’s still not back!”
